Brick model questions and answers
Short, honest answers about turning objects into brick models with Brickalike: what it costs, what you get, scanning, and 3D printing bricks.
Is Brickalike free?
Scanning, the 3D preview, the brick count and the parts list on screen are free. Saving the files is a one-off €12.
What do I get for €12?
A one-piece STL at the size you choose, a printable brick kit and print list, a parts list (CSV), a BrickLink wanted list, and a printable building manual with a 3D picture for every layer. One unlock code works on up to 3 browsers or devices and does not expire, unless the purchase is refunded.
How do I pay?
Checkout is handled by Stripe. It is a one-off payment, not a subscription. There are no accounts on Brickalike.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
Not for camera scans: the photos stay on your phone and the model is built in your browser. The optional "From one photo" route sends that single photo to an AI service (Tripo or Meshy) using your own key, through a relay that does not store it.
Do I need an app or an account?
No. It runs in your phone or computer browser, with no app to install and no account.
What 3D files can I import?
GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL or a zipped OBJ, for example from Polycam or Scaniverse. Phone USDZ files usually do not open; export as GLB or OBJ instead.
Do I need a 3D printer?
No. The parts list and the building manual are for building with real bricks. The STL files are for people who have a printer.
Is the STL in colour?
No. An STL has no colour, so it prints in whatever filament is loaded. The colours on screen are for the parts list.
Will printed bricks click together like real ones?
Not reliably on a home printer. Brick clutch needs about 0.1mm accuracy, so FDM prints come out loose or too tight; resin gets closer. The parts list uses real brick sizes, so buying the bricks always fits.
Why did my mug come out solid?
The camera scan builds the shape from outlines, so it cannot see inside hollows. Importing a proper 3D scan keeps more detail.
Is this an official brick-maker product?
No. Brickalike is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any brick or toy manufacturer. It uses standard brick-compatible sizes.
What if something goes wrong?
Email [email protected] within 14 days of buying and we will fix the problem or refund you. This does not affect your legal rights.
